YET again, America throws allies under the bus.
Donald Trump is pressuring Ukraine to accept a terrible peace deal.
His most senior envoys humiliated Britain by refusing to attend peace talks in London with Germany, France and Ukraine.
(They blamed a scheduling issue. They will travel to Moscow instead).
It is clear where Trump’s priorities lie. He wants a deal at all costs, between him and Putin.
It doesn’t matter if it is bad for Ukraine, bad for Europe or a victory for Russia that emboldens dictators around the world.

Trump’s so-called seven-point peace plan freezes the conflict along the current front lines.
That means Ukraine would surrender a fifth of its territory while Russia can keep almost everything — save two small parcels of land.
In exchange for what? There are no security guarantees for Kyiv to stop Putin invading again — such as foreign troops or Nato membership.
So it is not an end to the slaughter, it is merely a pause.

In the words of Kyiv’s Prime Minister, it would be “a frozen conflict disguised as peace”.
America would even recognise Russia’s legal ownership of Crimea.
It is a reward for Russian aggression and a chance for Putin’s battered military to rearm.
