"I wish I had a more fun answer, but that's all I can say for now."

Ostigard clearly has his preference for Gyokeres as he ended the call.

He added: "Viktor, great talking to you. See you soon, and text me when everything is signed and sorted down in Arsenal."

  • Luis Enrique rejections

A number of British clubs had the opportunity to sign Luis Enrique before taking over at Paris Saint-Germain, where he won every title including the Champions League.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all shortlisted Enrique after he left his role with Spain in 2023 but all three decided against hiring him.

Tottenham were the most serious contenders, prior to opting for Ange Postecoglou but it is believed chairman Daniel Levy backed off over a concern that the Spaniard’s spiky temperament made him too similar to former boss Antonio Conte.

Three other clubs in the EFL also moved for the 55-year-old and offered him a managerial role – Swansea, Leeds and Aston Villa all wanted him, per the BBC’s .

And even Arsenal were given a tip-off about the ex-Barcelona boss – by ex-manager Unai Emery.

But the Gunners decided to go another way, with fellow Spaniard Mikel Arteta still in charge.

  • Scholes on Hojlund

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has advised his former club to back Rasmus Hojlund.

I'd keep Højlund. I know he's not been great, but he's a 22-year-old kid who has been asked to play centre-forward for Manchester United on his own for the last two years.

He's had to play every week. He's the only one there, and he's a 22-year-old kid.

With the way they play, Man United should have at least three top centre-forwards, and I'd bring him into that group.

  • Fernandes on Saudi snub

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has broken his silence on his decision to snub a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

There was that possibility, the president of Al-Hilal called me a month ago to ask

There was a waiting period on my part to think about what the future would hold. I would be open to it, if Manchester United felt it was my time.

I spoke with Mr Ruben Amorim, who really tried to talk me out of it. I spoke with the club, which wasn’t willing to sell, only if I truly wanted to leave.

We never talked about money; that was all handled by my agent, not me.

I spoke with my family to understand if that was what I wanted for my future. It was actually my wife who asked me — I never said yes or no. She put my professional priorities ahead of everything else.

It would have been an easy move. I had Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo there, two people I have a great friendship with.

But I want to stay at the highest level, play in big competitions, because I still feel capable. I want to keep being happy, I’m still very passionate about this sport, and I’m happy with my decision.

  • Scholes says Man Utd must KEEP Hojlund

Paul Scholes has fired a rocket at Manchester United, insisting they must BACK under-fire striker Rasmus Hojlund.

"With the way they play, Man United should have at least three top centre-forwards, and I'd bring him into that group.

"Get [Victor] Osimhen and [Viktor] Gyokeres. Hojlund has struggled - like mad of late especially but he's not had the chance to sit down and watch.

"If a striker is lacking confidence the manager should sit him down and say, 'Have a look, get a bit of hunger back, a bit of feeling back for the game'.

"We all know he has centre-forward qualities — we've seen it. Not enough, I know that. But if he had experience around him.

"Say he had Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke around him, it would bring him on so much. He's been absolutely flogged to death.

"People forget how young he is. A lot of it is confidence."
